Lip Fillers
Regardless of the level of attention to give to the media (social or otherwise), it is almost impossible to not recognize the lips of celebrities, models, or influencers. Although big, pouty lips have been in the public eye for many, many years, it seems like they are more popular than ever before. Lip Fillers are even easier to access and possess than ever before. At Luxury Wellness Restoration Med Spa, we offer this treatment to any of our clients who are looking for fuller lips.
Our patients find that we deliver some of the best lip filler results. Below, we’ve included more information about the treatment, if you’d like to book a consultation, please contact us today!
WHAT ARE LIP FILLERS?
Lip Fillers are injections that are used to add volume to your lips using a type of dermal filler called Hyaluronic Acid (HA). Although this treatment uses a synthetic version of it, HA is a natural substance that your body creates which helps stretch and flex your skin as well as reduce wrinkles and fine lines. When the synthetic HA is injected into your lips, it creates a fuller, more plump appearance.
WHO ARE FILLERS FOR?
We believe that any adult can be a great candidate for Lip Fillers as long as they maintain these characteristics:
Are you in good physical health
Have realistic expectations
Do not have an active oral infection, including canker sores or cold sores
Many of our clients get lip fillers to increase the size of their lips, which they may want for many reasons, including:
Boosting confidence
Correcting asymmetry (the shape of your lips)
Restoring lip size.
Smoothing wrinkles
WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY OF LIP FILLERS
When you come in for your lip filler procedure, we will begin by applying a topical anesthetic to your lips so you won’t feel any pain and the process will be as comfortable as possible. The numbing creams often consist of benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine (BLT). About 15 to 30 minutes later, your lips should be numb. If you have a BLT allergy, you may be given a nerve block injection to numb your lips, which takes about 15 to 30 minutes as well.
The technician then uses a thin needle to inject lip filler into targeted parts of your lips, which can include the edges of your lips (vermillion border), the curve in the center of your upper lip (Cupid’s bow), and the corners of your mouth. While you won’t feel any pain, many patients express feeling a pinching sensation, which may cause their eyes to water.
An ice pack may be applied to your lips throughout the procedure to minimize swelling and bruising.
The entire procedure could take as little as 30 minutes or as long as two hours.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
Once you’re finished with your procedure, the technician will gently massage your lips so that they absorb the filler; they may continue to ice your lips as well. You will be monitored for up to 15 minutes to ensure you don’t experience any side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, or substantial bleeding. Once it is decided that you no longer require monitoring, you’ll be able to go home. Although the local anesthetic won’t make you tired or groggy so you can drive yourself home, you may choose to have a family member or friend drive you home just in case.
Your lips may be swollen, sensitive, and bruised, but those reactions should fade away after 24 to 48 hours, however, it can take up to a week.
You may be asked to return for a follow-up appointment about two weeks after the procedure to monitor your lips. Pictures may be taken for your medical record so you can see what your lips looked like before the procedure and after they healed.
Here are some tips that can help during your initial recovery for the best results:
Apply an ice pack for up to 10 minutes to reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling.
Avoid exercising for at least 24 hours
Be careful brushing your teeth
Don’t wear lipstick, lip balm, or any other product on your lips for at least 24 hours
Drink plenty of water
Refrain from touching or puckering your lips, including kissing, and sipping from a straw
ARE LIP FILLERS PAINFUL?
We do our best to ensure that your experience is comfortable and painless as possible, yet some patients do find the pinching sensation from the needle insertion to be uncomfortable. You may also experience some mild pain at your injection sites, but it should go away after 12 to 24 hours.
HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS WILL I NEED?
Lip Fillers will last you a very long time after 1 session, usually between 12 and 18 months. Your body will begin to naturally break down the filler over this time frame, so if you would like to maintain the results of your lip fillers, you will need to schedule maintenance appointments when you feel your appearance has changed.
HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS?
You will be able to notice a visible change immediately following your treatment, however, you will see the full effects in the next 24-72 hours as any swelling will subside.
CAN I COMBINE LIP FILLERS WITH OTHER PROCEDURES?
Absolutely! Many of our clients will do additional dermal fillers such as neurotoxins or Cheek Fillers to enhance their facial features, or you could even do a chemical peel or microneedling for a more improved overall appearance.
